Istanbul Archaeology Museum

The Istanbul Archaeology Museum is one of Turkey's prestigious museums, situated right next to the heart of the Ottoman Empire, Topkapi Palace. The museum stands out not only for its location but also for the historical value of its exhibited artifacts and its modern approach to museology.

 

In 2022, as part of a project for restoration, and exhibition arrangement, the main building and exhibition halls of the Istanbul Archaeology Museum underwent renovations. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism inaugurated the museum's reopening with a grand ceremony, featuring an impressive show presented by Dreambox. The show combined sound, light, video mapping, and live performances.

Projected onto the external walls of the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, the 3D video mapping show depicted the retrieval of the Great Alexander sarcophagus from the ancient Egyptian Sidon Kingdom in 1887, bringing it into the daylight of Istanbul. A lifelike replica of the sarcophagus, created through 3D applications, was moved through a visual theatrical performance in the museum's garden. The performance also portrayed Osman Hamdi Bey, Turkey's first archaeologist, who unearthed the sarcophagus. The theatrical performance, complemented by video mapping, light, and sound effects, offered an unforgettable experience.
