A New Light Rising
Al-Mayadeen is a pan-Arab news channel established in response to the growing demand for objective, reliable, and investigative journalism that emerged alongside the Arab Spring. Our collaboration began at the branding stage, where we developed multiple logo concepts in close coordination with the channel’s management, working alongside contemporary Arab designers and master calligraphers from around the world.
The name Al-Mayadeen, meaning “City Squares” in Arabic, draws direct inspiration from the public spaces where the Arab Spring began, symbols of freedom, expression, and social change. As the channel set out to champion values of freedom, social justice, equality, and freedom of speech, it was essential that its visual identity reflected both this revolutionary spirit and its deep cultural roots. The final logo adopts a calligraphic form that symbolizes a glowing firebrand held by a revolutionist, representing progress, resilience, and forward movement, while also abstractly referencing city squares through the expressive power of Arabic calligraphy.
Following the logo development, we established Al-Mayadeen’s complete visual and audio identity. A clean, contemporary graphic language was introduced to reflect evolution and change in a symbolic and refined way, ensuring clarity and strength across all broadcast touchpoints. All design and production work was delivered in Full HD, creating a modern and impactful on-air presence aligned with the channel’s mission and values.
